The USDA says 4.733 billion pounds of poultry were certified wholesome in October 2023, a rise of 3% from October 2022.
That included 4.22 billion pounds of chicken, 3% higher, and 500.316 million pounds of turkey, up 7%. Chicken and turkey slaughter and total average live weights were above a year ago.
Ante-mortem condemnations were 12.299 million pounds, or 0.2% of the preliminary live weight, while post-mortem condemnations were 25.337 million pounds, 0.53% of monthly production, both 2% below a year ago.
