Prevent plant is a reality for several farmers in the Northern Plains.
Jason Frerichs from Roberts County in northeast South Dakota says there have only been two-day planting windows in-between rains and about 10 to 20% of crop acres on his farm will likely be prevent plant corn.
“But it’s manageable for us. We’ve already put in plans to have various cover crop seeds, feed and forage (for the cattle).”
Jamie Beyer from Traverse County in west-central Minnesota says daily rains have made spring planting difficult and two of the three fields left to plant on the farm will be prevent plant.
