Iowa’s state climatologist says farmers can expect summer-like conditions this week. Dr. Justin Glisan tells Brownfield, “It looks like a tropical heat wave to me.”
Glisan says a prime window for planting has opened with temperatures forecast to be in the 80s and 90s. “Those warmer temperatures will also help dry out topsoil profile so we don’t get muddy, compact, or any problems with the planters out there,” he said.
But, he says this is the first big heat wave of the season and farmers need to be careful.
