Producer sentiment is up as farmers anticipate some relief from the USDA’s trade assistance program.
But Ag economist Jim Mintert says the latest Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer surveyed farmers before payment amounts were announced.
“People didn’t know the magnitude of the subsidy levels, for example on soybeans, pork, or corn when they filled out the survey,” he says. “It’s going to see interesting to see how that plays out going forward in terms of what people think now that they have some more details about the relief plan.”
He tells Brownfield farmers are more optimistic about the current conditions, but have mixed views on how much the plan will impact their farm income.
