Indiana State Veterinarian Dr. Bret Marsh says the national pork industry continues to be on high alert as additional cases of African Swine Fever are identified in China.
He says premises registration is an example of how pork producers are ramping up biosecurity efforts.
“Knowing where the pigs are in advance of an event is really helpful and the pork industry has been an early adopter of that,” he says. “We’re in the process right now of working with the industry to validate those premises to make sure we know where the hogs are, rather than a residence, so that has been extremely helpful.”
Marsh tells Brownfield more producers are also participating in the Secure Pork Supply Plan.
