Providing assistance for farmers and ranchers after the fire

Nebraska’s Director of Agriculture says the state is ready to provide aid to farmers and ranchers impacted by the recent wildfires.

Steve Wellman tells Brownfield the main service that’s currently available is the state’s Hay Hotline.  “Producers with hay available for sale can go on that website and enter their information and the hay that they are offering for sale,” he says.  “Anybody interested in purchasing hay can access that information.”

He says farmers could be eligible for some federal disaster assistance, but many are still assessing damages.  “Anything on the federal agency programs I would suggest they reach out to their county offices directly and work with those folks on any type of USDA programs that might apply,” he says.

For more information, Wellman says producers should visit nda.nebraska.gov.
