PRRS surge strikes Midwest pork producers

Many midwestern pork producers are dealing with a surge in Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS).

Dr. Paul Sundberg with the Swine Health Information Center says the PRRS 1-4-4 1C strain continues to cause problems.

“We had a big uptick at the end of November, and it’s primarily in finishing floors.”

He tells Brownfield there’s usually a spike in PRRS cases on finishing floors a month or so prior to outbreaks in breeding herds.
