Rain slowing down Arkansas field progress

Rains prevented Arkansas farmers from getting much field work done last week.  USDA reporters say there were only three days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture levels are reported as 24% surplus, 66% adequate, and 9% short while subsoil moistures are similarly 24% surplus, 67% adequate, and 9% short.

Arkansas reporters say all this year’s corn is now planted with 96% of the crop emerged.  Seventy-two percent of the corn is in either good or excellent condition.
