The USDA says commercial red meat production during December 2018 totaled 4.368 billion pounds, down 1% on the year.
Beef production declined 2% to 2.116 billion pounds, with a slight decrease in the slaughter to 2.580 million head and a 12-pound loss for the average live weight at 1,368 pounds, while pork production was modestly lower than the previous year at 2.232 billion pounds, also with a slight decrease in the monthly kill to 10.461 million head.
