Renewable Volume Obligation proposal met with scrutiny

Proposed Renewable Volume Obligations announced today by the EPA are being met with scrutiny by most renewable fuels groups.

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings tells Brownfield a 3 percent increase to overall biofuel blending requirements for 2019 looks good on the surface.

“The problem is, once you start scratching below the surface, the waivers, the small refinery exemptions, the demand destruction that EPA has embarked on over the last several months would make sure that in reality less than 15 billion-gallons of ethanol and other conventional biofuel would be blended.”

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says while EPA maintained the 15 billion-gallon requirement for conventional ethanol, that’s not a real number the industry can count on.
