More than four years of research concludes the majority of animal viruses listed on the Swine Health Information Center Disease Matrix are transmittable through feed.
Following the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) outbreak in 2014, Researchers from South Dakota State University, Kansas State University, and Pipestone Veterinary Services in Minnesota began looking at animal feed as a possible vehicle for virus movement.
Pipestone director of research Scott Dee tells Brownfield 7 out of the 11 viruses tested can potentially survive the trans-global journey from Asia or Europe to the United States.
