Michigan legislators are recognizing agriculture as a key economic driver for the state.
House Ag Committee Chair Julie Alexander sponsored a resolution declaring March 13 as Agriculture Day. She tells Brownfield as a former teacher and a farmer’s wife, her number one priority is making sure her fellow lawmakers have access to accurate information. “It’s easy for individuals to go in a direction that’s not always scientific-based, based on emotions or what they heard, that’s unacceptably to me.”
Senate Ag Committee Chair Kevin Daley tells Brownfield infrastructure improvements are needed to support a growing ag sector, but a 45-cent gas tax as proposed in the Governor’s budget doesn’t work.
