Senate Ag Committee chair Pat Roberts participated in a farm bill roundtable discussion Friday in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Roberts heard from farmers on a variety of farm bill-related issues. Pork producer Kevin Peterson of Osceola, Nebraska said funding for an FMD vaccine bank is a top priority for him.
“This is an investment that we can make in our export markets,” Peterson said. “Any type of disease that could happen—Foot-and-Mouth Disease especially—you would see those borders close, those export markets go away, for the foreseeable future.”
Row crop farmer Shane Greving of Chapman, Nebraska emphasized the importance of a strong crop insurance program.
