The director of the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) says the scope of the African Swine Fever outbreak in China is multiplying.
Dr. Paul Sundberg tells Brownfield from the beginning of the outbreak in August through September, the average herd size that has been reported is 320 pigs.
“In October, the average herd size of outbreaks jumped to 3,000.”
He says the most recent outbreak of 20,000 pigs on October 14th does skew the numbers.
