SE Iowa farmer is back planting soybeans

Mark Jackson of Oskaloosa, Iowa posted this photo on Monday of  soybeans being planted into a cereal rye cover crop. Southeast Iowa farmer Mark Jackson was back planting soybeans Monday after a two-week rain delay. Jackson, who farms near Oskaloosa, was planting soybeans into his cereal rye cover crop. “We’re going in less-than-ideal conditions today. But with cereal rye as a cover crop and doing it in a no-till situation, I think it gives us a little bit—a day or so earlier—than if we had to till the soil and create a different compaction layer.” Jackson says they were able to plant all of their corn and about 25 percent of their soybeans by mid-May.
