Locally heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop this weekend across the upper Midwest and neighboring regions before shifting eastward early next week. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches in the upper Midwest. In contrast, mostly dry weather will prevail in California and the Northwest, as well as much of Texas, while spotty showers will affect the Southwest.
By early next week, heat will re-intensify across the Northwest, following a brief cool spell.
