Across the Corn Belt, a warm, humid air mass dominates from the Great Plains eastward through the Ohio Valley, with Friday morning showers already developing in the vicinity of Kansas City, Missouri. While the warmth favors corn and soybean development, the potential for additional excessive moisture is unwelcome.
On the Plains, stormy weather traversing Nebraska
and South Dakota has renewed concerns for flooding of streams and low lying
fields. In contrast, heat and dryness favor drydown and harvesting of hard red
winter wheat in the southern Plains, where Friday daytime highs are expected to reach the upper
90s.
