Second avian influenza case found in Wisconsin

Wisconsin ag officials have confirmed a second case of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Kevin Hoffman with the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection says the state’s second case was found in a backyard flock in Rock County and was confirmed by the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and the National Veterinary Services Laboratories.  He says the flock has already been depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease.

The state’s only other avian influenza case was on a commercial egg facility in Jefferson County, where nearly three million birds had to be depopulated since March 14th.
