Senate continues working to restrict Trump’s tariff powers

The Senate might

bring a compromise bill limiting President Trump’s tariff powers to the floor

this fall.

There are two

similar bills that would restrict the President’s use of Section 232 national

security tariffs including steel and aluminum tariffs. 

A Senate Finance

Committee staff member tells Brownfield Chairman Chuck Grassley has asked them

to combine Senator Pat Toomey’s Congressional Trade Authority Act with Senator

Rob Portman’s Trade Security Act.

Toomey’s legislation

would require Congress to approve all Section 232 tariffs issued during the

last four years or they would automatically be repealed.
