The US Senate has passed an omnibus bill that includes $250 million in assistance for rice farmers.
Arkansas Senator John Boozman championed the request by USA Rice to help offset the losses rice farmers have faced this year from flat prices and record high input costs.
Studies by Texas A&M University showed that fertilizer hikes caused a $62 per acre increase in rice production costs over 2021 and as many as two-thirds of rice farmers are expected to see negative margins this year.
