The USDA says the amount of pork, chicken, and total poultry in cold storage on December 1st were record highs. Pork stocks were reported at 574.68 million pounds, up 13% on the year, as production continues to outpace demand expectations. Beef came out at 480.382 million pounds, down 7% from a year ago, and red meat in cold storage totaled 1.095 billion pounds, 2% more than last year.
Production also outpaced demand for chicken, pushing supplies to a record 991.489 million pounds, up 7% on the year, while turkey was pegged at 226.813 million pounds, down 17% thanks to seasonal demand, and total poultry was 1% higher at 1.221 billion pounds.
