Solar “explosion” a concern for ag in southeastern Wisconsin

There’s concern about an explosion of solar projects in southeastern Wisconsin.

Compeer Financial certified appraiser Bobbi Jo Statton tells Brownfield new solar farms now occupy nearly 1,000 acres in Rock County, and another project about to come online will encompass 2,000 acres.

“That’s some good farmland. So the effect that is going to have on (agriculture) in this area, and we’re talking 2,000 acres, I don’t know. I think we’re going to see effects of this in the future.”

She says there’s also a new solar farm in Kenosha County that covers 1,500 acres.
