A frustratingly small window for fieldwork has some farmers in southern Minnesota preparing for crop failures.
Lawrence Sukalski grows corn and soybeans in south-central Minnesota near the Iowa border.
He says in four decades of farming, there has never been a spring like this one.
“It’s the shortest window we’ve ever had, one day. We got to go out in the field (last Monday) and plant corn, but that was the only thing we did.”
With that lone day of planting occurring more than a week ago, Sukalski tells Brownfield he and other farmers in the area are starting to get nervous.
