An agronomist points to sorghum-Sudan grass as a good forage alternative given the weather challenges this spring. Jon Zuk with Winfield United says feed concerns are intensifying because of poor first-crop alfalfa and corn planting struggles. “Sorghum (and) sorghum by Sudan grass are two awesome options actually for when it gets hot and dry, to get some real good quality forages, especially if you’re in need of that. And actually give you pretty decent tonnage and some cutback as well.” Sorghum-Sudan grass hybrids are used primarily for grazing, green chop, silage and hay.
