For an hour Thursday South Dakota farmer David Poppens hosted U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to conduct a Q&A with farmers and the South Dakota congressional delegation. Poppens – who farms near Lennox, in southeastern South Dakota – at first worried about the time the event would take from harvest, but he soon warmed to the idea.
“For the Secretary of Ag we can bust out a couple of hours,” Poppens told Brownfield Ag News after the secretary had left and the hubbub died down.
