Barely half of South Dakota’s spring wheat crop is harvested
as of Sunday. Harvest is slow because the crop is late and wet, according to Todd
Hanten, a farmer in northeast South Dakota.
“We have to wait until at least one, two or three o’clock before we can start [combining]
and we’re done early at 8:00 most of the time,” Hanten told Brownfield Ag News.
“It’s getting too tough already.”
Hanten has to dry wheat down or be docked for too much moisture.
