Soybean Cyst Nematode survive Midwest floods

Many farmers are wondering if Midwest flooding has drowned

out soybean cyst nematode (SCN).

Iowa State University plant pathologist Greg Tylka says unfortunately, the answer is no.

“It’s a pretty intuitive question to ask because nematodes are worms, worms are animals, and all animals need oxygen. The twist here is that nematodes get their oxygen by absorbing it through their body wall, or their skin.”

He tells Brownfield that allows SCN to survive in saturated

soil.
