Some Missouri Bootheel farmers are waiting until next spring to apply fertilizer.
Ryan Wilson from Portageville says the low Mississippi River levels are raising fall fertilizer prices including MAP and DAP and that rising cost is due to availability.
“The past few years, prices have been higher than the norm and this year, prices are up $200 to $300 per ton on some products.”
Aaron Porter from Dexter says it doesn’t make sense to apply fall fertilizer at his farm due to the light, sandy soils and it will be a few weeks before any decisions are made for next year.
