Storms have damaged numerous farms and communities across the Midwest.
Scott Halpin, director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Illinois, says farmers who have been impacted need to contact their local FSA office.
“Last year, Illinois led the nation in tornadoes, so we continue to see these events happen.” He says, “So far this spring, we’ve had a few smaller tornadoes caused some damage. When those things happen, it’s always important to stay in contact with your county office to see if any of these disaster programs kick in.”

“Everybody’s situation is different, but especially with the amount of dollars you have invested in buildings, and bins, and equipment, and things like fence and livestock,” he says, “there’s quite a few programs out there that do come into play when these events happen.”
Halpin says the FSA utilizes a variety of outreach methods to raise farmer awareness when disaster assistance programs are enacted.
