The nation’s spring wheat condition is very high for this time of year. The USDA says 80% is in good to excellent condition, “It is very unusual once the crop’s heading out and you move into July to see crop conditions as high as what we’re seeing in 2018.”
USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says the only other time spring wheat conditions were this good over the past 23 years was in 2010, and conditions stayed that way through harvest that year, “We’re getting to the point where the crop will be filling so heat can still be important at this point but there’s no signs of it really falling off the tracks at any point in the near future.”
The heat could lower the good to excellent condition ratings for spring wheat moving forward.
