Study shows where climate change conversation is focused

A new study by the Center for Food Integrity shows more than 52 million people are engaged in discussing climate change. Executive Director Terry Fleck says, “Most Americans are involved in a conversation around whether it exists, but not as many around discussing the causes and solutions of it.”

Fleck tells Brownfield their research shows consumers are not linking their consumption of meat protein to climate change yet, “but they are talking about a link between greenhouse gas emissions and livestock production in general, so it hasn’t shown a connection to where they’re intentionally moving away from animal protein because of their concern for climate change.”

Fleck says consumers are information seekers and advocates for the environment that crave credible information, and they are paying attention to cattle farming methods, the industrialization of agriculture, overfishing, and water use issues.
