A southwest Minnesota farmer says about a quarter of his
corn crop has been damaged by high winds.
Brandon Fast of Mountain Lake tells Brownfield corn planted in mid-May was just starting to tassel before a storm moved through July 20th.
“It hasn’t shown too much stress because we’ve had some pretty consistent rains. But unfortunately we ended up having some 75mph wind come through, so we had quite a bit of green snap in a lot of our fields.”
Green snap occurs when corn in the vegetative state breaks
at or below the growing point.
