Taking care of cattle in extreme cold

With the extremely cold temperatures in the north following last week’s blizzard, South Dakota State University Extension Specialist Warren Rusche says producers will need to protect cattle from the elements.

“Wind protection, keeping cattle dry and moving as much snow as we can off of pens and surfaces. It’s going to be challenging. Diesel fuel isn’t cheap and cold weather makes things break.”

Rusche tells Brownfield demand for that feed will increase.
