Tennessee crop conditions decline as drought area expands

Tennessee has been without measurable rainfall for several weeks resulting in declining crop conditions. Some parts of the state have entered into D1 or moderate drought conditions.

Corn is rated 68% good to excellent with 2% silking.  Soybeans are rated 68% good to excellent with 82% planted, 72% of the crop emerged, and 2% blooming.  Cotton is rated 63% good to excellent with 10% squaring.  Thrip populations continue to be a concern for cotton growers.
