Texas wildfires threaten agriculture producers

Wildfires are consuming thousands of acres in the Texas panhandle and endangering the state’s agricultural operations.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller issued a statement saying, “These fires not only threaten lives and property but also have a significant impact on our agriculture industry. We stand in solidarity with our farmers and ranchers facing loss and destruction.”  Miller says the state is committed to supporting their recovery efforts every step of the way.

One of the fires north of Amarillo near Smokehouse Creek has already burned 500 thousand acres and is not contained.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration for 60 counties.
