Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA) is the most powerful woman in American politics. The San Francisco lawmaker made history in 2007, when she was elected the first ever female Speaker of the House. Until 2011, she ruled that roost with an iron hand, managing the House Democrat majority in much the way her predecessors from both sides of the aisle did before her, namely reward your friends, punish your enemies.
This week, she made history again, becoming the only woman to be twice elected Speaker and only the second Speaker to hold that august position — third in line to presidency — in nonconsecutive Congresses.
