The Federal Reserve this week released its “Beige Book” update, summing up what’s happening and likely to happen in the farm economy for the Fed’s 12 districts. In a nutshell, the big issues, echoes of the last five years, are credit, or lack thereof; trade, as in tariff tirades, foreclosed markets and nowhere to turn, and “soppy” weather, about which no one can do anything. “Agricultural conditions remained weak overall, but a few Districts reported some improvements.
