USDA says dairy production was up for cheese and hard ice cream, but down for several other products
U.S. cheese production was up in April. USDA says total production excluding cottage cheese was 1.19 billion pounds, up 1.8% over last year but 3% below March. Italian type cheese production was 6.2% higher than a year ago at 504 million pounds, but 2.8% below March of this year. American cheese production was 4.7% below year-ago levels and 4.3% below March at 468 million pounds.
