Across the Corn Belt, showers and thunderstorms extend southwestward from the lower Great Lakes region. Thunderstorms have weakened since Thursday, when there were numerous reports of wind damage and large hail, mainly in Illinois and Missouri. Elsewhere, unusually cold, breezy weather—accompanied by snow showers—continues to inhibit fieldwork across the upper Midwest, where Friday’s high temperatures will remain mostly below 40°F. Despite the chilly weather, moderate to locally major flooding is occurring in portions of the upper Mississippi Valley and the Red River Valley.
