USDA: 58% of U.S. corn, 29% of soybeans planted

Last week was another slow one for corn and soybean planting in most states as wet weather and flooding continued to impede progress. The USDA says 58% of corn is planted as of Sunday, compared to 49% a week ago and the five-year average of 90%, with 32% of the crop emerged, compared to 69% on average. For soybeans, 29% of the crop is planted, compared to 19% last week and 66% normally, with 11% emerged, compared to 35% typically this time of year.
