A USDA official says the agency is working on its hemp rule, but it will not be ready for this year’s planting season.
“We want to take time to do this right and have the best rule we can, but also realize that you need a rule sooner than later.”
Undersecretary Greg Ibach says the process will be complicated.
“Many of you that have hemp programs know that within your own state there are discussions about testing and location and acres and some of those aspects as well as availability of processing and movement between states.”
The 2018 farm bill officially
legalized industrial hemp production nationwide.
