More than 60 percent of all USDA staff are still working during the government shutdown.
The Natural Resource Conservation Service is the only USDA agency fully staffed. Nearly 90 percent of the Food Safety and Inspection Service and Ag Marketing Service are staffed. And, about 70 percent of employees for the Farm Service Agency, Forest Service, and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service are working.
Some of the operations still taking place include import and export inspections, USDA’s Market News Service, and conservation program assistance.
