USDA partnering abroad to reduce ASF spreading

The Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs says USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is working with other countries to reduce the spread of African Swine Fever abroad.

Ted McKinney says increased international movement of meat could bring African Swine Fever into the U.S. which is why they’re working with countries like Poland.  “The decision by APHIS to discuss with Poland what their quarantine areas are and what meat can and what meat cannot come from what different processors.”

He says partnerships have allowed the USDA to lift import restrictions on more than a dozen pork processing plants in Poland.
