USDA raises 2018 chicken estimate, lowers turkey

The USDA raised it’s 2018 production estimate for broiler chickens by 79 million pounds to 42.649 billion, expecting a strong third quarter slaughter pace to cancel out an anticipated decline in the fourth quarter. The annual price was up fractionally from October at $.974 per pound, based on current price data, while exports were up slightly at 6.916 billion pounds and per capita consumption was unchanged at 92.4 pounds per person. The only change to the 2019 outlooks for broilers was a slight increase in per capita consumption, up 0.1 pounds per person to 93.5.
