USDA seeks reduction in anticompetitive barriers

A new partnership between the USDA and 32 state attorneys general aims to enhance competition in food and agriculture supply chains.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the Agricultural Competition Partnership will reduce anticompetitive market structures that are raising prices and limiting choices for consumers and producers.

He says it will increase the capacity of state attorneys general to conduct on-the-ground assessments of competition and consumer issues, enhance coordination between federal and state agriculture and competition authorities, create new and more independent research programs, and result in fairer and competitive markets and more resilient supply chains.
