The USDA has raised its projection for the current winter wheat crop.
As of June 1st, the crop is estimated at 1.198 billion bushels, up 1% from May’s guess, but down 6% from the 2017 total of 1.269 billion because of lower acreage and lower yields, with large portions of the hard red winter growing region in drought or near drought conditions. Month to month, the hard red winter guess was up 1% at 650.373 million bushels, soft red winter was slightly higher at 315.5 million, and combined white winter was up 2% at 231.843 million bushels.
