Hot, mostly dry weather will prevail for the remainder of the week in northern California and the Northwest, as well as the south-central U.S. Meanwhile, showers will continue across the Southwest, but may become more scattered as the week progresses. In contrast, frequent showers will occur from the central and southern Plains to the Atlantic Seaboard.

Five-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 5 inches or more from the eastern Gulf Coast region to the southern Atlantic Coast.
