Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the number of farms in the U.S. continues to decline and it’s a growing concern for the industry.
“We’ve lost 437,300 farms since 1981. I’m not okay with that,” Vilsack said.
Speaking at the recent Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit, he said farmers have also lost 141 million acres of land during that time. “And so the question is, what do you do about it”
Vilsack says one solution is to increase investments in climate-smart agricultural practices that can help create new markets.
