Voluntary third-party audits may become new norm for dairies

An animal welfare specialist says she expects to see more farms turn to third-party audits after the Fair Oaks animal abuse video. “I don’t know anyone who works with farm animals, anyone in my field that isn’t outraged about what’s occurred, an who doesn’t want to be part of the solution.” Candace Croney, the director of Purdue University’s Center for Animal Welfare Science, says bringing an outside party onto the farm helps to review training with personnel on practices, equipment, facilities and more.
