The 2023 planting season kicked off this week for north central Illinois farmer Bill Leigh.
From his tractor cab on Thursday, he tells Brownfield weather has made it seem more like May than April.
“Soil temperatures are up in the 60’s and it is 75 degrees outside. We are putting soybeans into no-till corn with standing rye grass that’s about an inch and a half high, which we will terminate when it gets a little bigger.”
Leigh says he does wonder if the warm weather will stick around.
